Interview with Alkan, founder of Amnesia Entertainment
How did you get involved with the nightlife scene in San Diego?
I traveled to America from Turkey at age 20 to pursue my education in San Diego State University's Business Administration program. I only knew a few words of English when I came to the United States which made it very challenging to make friends. After turning 21 I immediately entered the club scene to improve my communication skills and to expand my social network. In 2004 I began working with Sfinx Productions under the auspices of Alex Roizen and Omid Sabet, which gave me excellent experience in all aspects of nightlife.
You've become a well known figure in San Diego nightlife.
What do you attribute this to?
As an international student I met a lot of very supportive people from other countries. Playing for the SDSU soccer team allowed me to create good relationships with American students. One of the most important steps was becoming friends with many of the SDSU Greek fraternities and sororities, especially the lovely ladies of Alpha Chi Omega and Gamma Phi Beta during coaching sessions for indoor soccer. Most importantly, during our Sfinx events I would always extend myself to the guests and make sure all of their needs were met to the best of my abilities. I've benefited greatly from using a professional approach to conducting business and not treating my events as parties, but rather as an opportunity to provide quality service to my guests.
Whats the story with Amnesia Entertainment?
After working with Sfinx Productions, and other top promotion companies like Eventvibe and aProduction, I realized that I was prepared to take everything to the next level. In the beginning of November I spoke with Alex Roizen and Omid Sabet from Sfinx thanking them for their friendship and support and shared that I would be starting Amnesia Entertainment; we parted ways on the best of terms. Following a meeting with the Eventvibe President and CEO Tim Ortiz, I decided to host my first event along with Eventvibe, aProduction, and Minx Pro at Spin for the November 16th David Guetta show. Since then Amnesia has also participated with the November 28th Fedde Le Grand show at On Broadway and held its official launch party at the New Years Eve Extravaganza at La Jolla Hilton Torrey Pines featuring the #4 DJ in the world ATB. Amnesia's next event will be at On Broadway Event Center with DJs Chase Costello, Cowboy Mike, and Victor Dinaire for my official birthday celebration.
How would you describe the type of events Amnesia Entertainment will be hosting?
Amnesia Entertainment is a new production company based out of San Diego. We specialize in upscale events. We work with other companies to bring the world's best DJs to Southern California. We also organize Party Buses and Limos so if you have a large group that is looking for a night out then contact us to organize transportation and discount entry. Because of our relationships with the prominent venues in San Diego we are able to ensure your group VIP access and discount prices.
In what direction would you like to see San Diego nightlife go?
Although I have a great time at all of the events, and I'm a fan of all music, popularizing house and trance music is one of the main goals for my company. I will be working to bring the biggest and best talent from around the world to Southern California's most prominent venues. Amnesia Entertainment is committed to providing our guests with an unforgettable experience unlike any other.
