DETAILS:
On Friday, June 18, True Skool in association w/ Zulu Northstar & Eve Lounge presents Electric Kingdom, a new monthly event (3rd Fridays) featuring Ren the Vinyl Archaeologist of True Skool spinning electro, breaks & house - past, present and future at Eve Lounge. This unique event unites b-boys and b-girls as well as breakbeat/electro fans to jam to the quintessential "break" which has given birth to hip hop culture and the electro funk music founded by Amen-Ra of Universal Hip Hop Culture, Afrika Bambaataa.

From the "breaks" which set off dance floors in the late 70s and early 80s to the many genres of dance music which developed as a result, such as Electro, Miami Bass, Freestyle, House and Nu Breaks, Ren the Vinyl Archaeologist (founder of True Skool) stays true to his name as he explores the many genres that has influenced his unique style, which is deeply rooted in The Funk. As a b-boy as early as 1983, Ren the Vinyl Archaeologist grew up in the suburbs of NYC and was fan of music long before he touched turntables. In the early 90s, Ren was a regular participant of raves in NYC long before the mainstream knew what a rave was. Partying at underground rave club, NASA (made famous by the movie, "Kids") and raves in surrounding states, Ren's strong appreciation for music led to a successful career as a DJ and promoter. Since moving to San Francisco in 1998, Ren had quickly earned a reputation as a promoter who featured emerging artists, turntablists and hip hop legends, some of whom include Zion I, DJ Premier and Jazzy Jeff. In 2001, True Skool won Best of the Bay in the SF Bay Guardian. As a DJ, Ren has shared bills with Afrika Bambaataa, Z-Trip, Cut Chemist and DJ Q-Bert, to name a few.

"I wanted to create a space for the dancers and to create a vibe unique to the Bay Area." says Ren the Vinyl Archaeologist. "As a dancer myself, I know the type of music that energizes the people. Whether you be a b-boy, b-girl, raver or house music enthusiast, this is event is for you if you like to dance."

This is event is hosted by Mooncricket Films, Sistah Brown, Zulu Northstar, Lori (CMC) and Sisterz of the Underground. Flavorgroup is known for curating their "Flavor" dance contests featuring the best dancers from the bay and beyond, which is capsulated in the recent release of "Strength In Flavor" DVD. Zulu Northstar is a Zulu Nation affiliate for Northern California. Mooncricket Films, founded by bboy/filmmaker, Beto Lopez also has hosting duties w/ Lori of California Music Channel. The Sisterz of the Underground are an all-female collective of Hip Hop artists who have been holding it down in the bay for 9 years. Comprised of b-girls, graf artists, dj's, emcees, and promoters, SOTU is one of the strongest female forces in Hip Hop.

Our sponsors include Fusicology, Mixerfriendly, Lion & Rooster, Frank151 and Hardknock Radio. This event takes place at Eve Lounge, 575 Howard St., San Francisco. 10pm-2am. 21+. No Cover! More info: http://www.trueskool.com/
