Eventvibe Welcomes DJ Kelly Trance , From Oklahoma City To Our Crew!
EV:When were you first introduced to the electronic music scene?
KT: I first got into the electronic scene in Oklahoma City when I was 15. My boyfriend had some terribly cheesy "dance mix" cds that we would listen to all the time. Shortly after I attended my first rave and was automatically drawn to the dj and what they were doing. I knew immediately that was something I wanted to do, so I would study the djs at the parties, research online and explore all different types of edm...everything from house to drum and bass. Then I moved to Denver where I was working my ass off to save money and buy equipment.
EV: How and where did you get your first club gig?
KT: In 2000 I had passed out some mix tapes to some friends, djs and promoters. One of the djs let me play part of his slot at a coffee house. I think I played about 20 minutes and was extremely nervous. A few months later I started playing some raves (like the 9pm or 6am slots haha!)
EV: You've been featured in FHM as one of the sexiest DJs in the world, have worked with MAC, raised money for multiple charities and have been all around the world deejaying. How do you keep up with such a hectic schedule?
KT: Actually I wish I could be busier, I feel so fortunate to have such a kick ass job (if you could call it that!). It's also a blessing to be able to use djing in a positive way to help others which is something I feel very strongly about. And as far as being in FHM, it was really cool to be featured with such talented and beautiful djs. I'm kind of a tomboy so it wasn't something I expected!
EV: Your first single, 'Killin It' was followed by a signing to Djette Volume 1 with the likes of Lisa Pinup and Mistress Barbara. What was it like being ranked with some of the top DJs in the world?
KT: It was so amazing to be on the same record with such respected djs/producers. I never thought I would get a chance like that, especially not with my first track. It was also very cool that Djette gave me along with some other up and coming artists the opportunity to get our names and music out.
EV: You currently do a lot of remix work for Peak Hour Music. Your style ranges from electro house to progressive and trance. What style do you personally prefer and how do you usually approach a remix?
KT: Do you look to make a track similar to the original or totally flip it around? Hands down my favorite genre is progressive house, it's beautiful and intelligent. As far as my approach to a remix, after I first listen to the track I have an idea in my head of the direction I want to go. 90% of the time the remix comes out sounding completely different than my original idea. I always look to give my remix my own personal twist but I like to leave some of the original elements in the song. Of course there have been a few times where I didn't even know what the original track sounds like, all you get is the vocals so you are left with a lot of room for interpretation.
EV: You have your vocal debut coming out on Peak Hour Music. Could you tell us a little about it? .
KT: I really can't wait for the song to come out. It's a very naughty/dirty track I did with DJ Exodus called "I Love Having Sex". The track is hot and so are all the remixes, it should be out later this summer. It was also good experience in the studio as I will be working with some really phenomenal vocalists for my upcoming trance releases.
