The three-day conscious gathering taking place March 17-20 has found its new home in Joshua Tree Retreat Center, after initially announcing Lake Hemet. The open spaces and magnificent mountains of Joshua Tree National Park create an environment that fosters Serenity's "journey of peace, love and sound". Being in the natural, off-the-grid location it is, surrounded by hills to adventure and plains to roam, the secluded space allows us to find serenity ourselves, to stop and breathe for a weekend. Last year's gorgeous venue at the La Jolla Indian Campground served this peaceful purpose, as well as 2014's Zaca Lake Retreat near Santa Barbara, so I am thrilled to see what is in store for us this year at Joshua Tree, about 2.5 hours from San Diego and Los Angeles.
Serenity's family vibe comes not only from the music, but from the nurturing sense of community that comes from an interactive setting. All of us are invited to contribute to the space, through dancing, sharing stories, participating in workshops, making art or sculptures, playing in the trees, meeting our camp neighbors, or perhaps just opening up your heart and mind for the weekend. We bring the intentions, but Serenity provides the atmosphere to grow together through several activities, performances, art installations, and workshops throughout the weekend.
Some of the stand-out qualities that I enjoyed at Serenity last year were the 24-hour, round- the-clock music at main stages and renegades, the beautiful, relaxing environment that is rare at festivals nowadays, and the more intimate crowd of people where I ran into old and new friends constantly - many of which I still keep in contact with today.
Centered around the dates of the Spring Equinox, it is a time to celebrate the time where night and day, dark and light, are in perfect balance - representing the balance within us. Thus, the organizers of Serenity hope that we take this time to honor this balance, this feeling of ONE as a whole, rather than as individuals.
With the perfect timing, setting, crowd, and that outrageous lineup of artists, Serenity Gathering is the right choice to make. It will leave you feeling refreshed and anew just in time for the Spring season. Let us blossom together!
Serenity Gathering 2016 will take place March 17-20 at Joshua Tree Retreat Center, Joshua Tree, CA.
