2007 was another big year for the Swedes. But whereas 2005 and
2006 saw a slew of releases from Messrs Angello and Ingrosso, 07 was,
according to Seb, “an on the road year. It wasn’t so inspiring for me
because the Berlin minimal thing came in really big – techy and cool is
fine but this just wasn’t my cup of tea. There weren’t any big club
hits like Alter Ego – ‘Rocker’ or Roman Flugel’s ‘Gehts Noch’ where
people would go absolutely mental. Now Eric Prydz is making music and
Axwell is making good music and in general good music is coming again.”
And how do you look back on the year now WMC comes into view once
again? “It was the best year of my life. We got all the feedback from
the crowd and a lot of fan-mail and you know, I get touched by every
fan I see. I can’t get enough of it! I try to talk to every fan,
whether it’s give tips or just to sign an autograph. Last year, the
Swedish House Mafia took over INK and rocked the joint from sundown to
sunrise. “It was great, again it’s all about expectations. There are so
many parties going on and so many that don’t go off but we had a good
team and we were all in a party mode so there wasn’t an ‘Us Vs Them’
vibe. We were there in the DJ booth drinking and playing tracks more
than anybody. Miami is like a camp for DJs. It’s a big excuse for a
musical showcase, and you meet everyone behind the email address. This
year there will be twelve of us!”
The other big event of 07 was of course the SHM takeover of Amnesia
during Radio One Week. Picture the scene: Amnesia, August 13th. 3,000
club-hungry punters and the boys in the booth are the ones behind two
of the summer’s biggest hits, namely the Spanish guitar-flecked
‘Umbrella’ and ‘I Found You.’ “It was amazing. We had the main stage,
the perfect warm-up for Sasha, a hero since we were kids. The gig, the
music and the sync between all of us was incredible. I didn’t sleep for
three days and I don’t do drugs! I went to P Diddy’s villa for an
after-party and then directly to Malta. I was really, really happy.”
